Family, Faith, Fun Friday – Sovereignty of God

This Sunday Frankie is going to preach on the sovereignty of God. Sovereignty is a big word, right? I tell my kids, when spelling big words, break words down, and see if you see any smaller words. We see reign and really that helps us when looking at the definition (that does not always happen when break down words…ie cattapiller…not a cat or a pillar).

The sovereignty of God is all about how He is sovereign which means He reigns supremely over all. He is the king and he controls and rules the earth.

I remember a story. A dad buys fishes and everything that goes with it for his daughter. He put the rocks on the bottom, a plant, water, filter on the side, a big goldfish, and three small fishes. The dad and his daughter watched the fishes. The big fish swam on the top as small fish swam on the bottom looking for a place to hide. The big fish pushed over the plant and the small fish hide under the plant. See the dad was like God. God made the earth and everything in it and like the dad set up the tank and put the fishes in it for his daughter. The fishes are like us. We have free will. We are able to do things just like the fish can swim where ever they want. the big fish pushing the plant over may seem like a disaster, but the dad kept it this way so the little fishes can use it to hide. The dad is still in control of the situation and has rule and reign over the tank, the plant, and the fish.

I think of Joseph when he was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused and jailed, forgotten about, and in all of this Joseph eventually would become the second in command over Egpyt, and when his brothers needed his help Joseph said to them, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” (Genesis 50:20, English Standard Version)

Bad things happen around us but God is the King of the world and can and will make good out of it.  He shows us time and time again in His Word where God does just this.
