Seek Him ~ January 20th, 2020

Here are the audio version and daily devotional for, January 20th, 2020, of our daily reading plan.  I (Pastor Brandon), and others, soon hopefully, will be coming together daily to read the readings from the daily reading plan, which can be found by clicking here.

In today’s episode, we talk about the section of the Gospel of Matthew that discusses the cost of discipleship where people are coming up to Jesus and asking to follow Him.  We first discuss the culture behind the man that requests to bury his father, and how could Jesus say no to this request in what we could consider in our culture in a very rude way.  Once we understand the culture and its context we can understand the response of Jesus.

Next, we back up a bit to talk about how Jesus wants us to follow Him just because of who He is and what He has done on the cross for us.  It isn’t about the signs and wonders.  It isn’t about the healings.  It is simply about following Jesus, and loving Jesus because He is Jesus.  In particular, it isn’t an easy call.  The road is difficult, but the day of victory makes it so worth it.

We would have talked about Genesis 22, but there is a whole series of sermons I can preach on this.  Maybe we will do that sometime this year.  God bless, and happy Monday.

Today’s readings:

  • Psalm 14
  • Genesis 22
  • Matthew 5:8-22
